Twenty-two bars and restaurants are participating in this new gastronomic event, organized to mark the ‘700th Anniversary’

Benidorm pays tribute to its traditional gastronomy with four days in ‘Menjars del Nostre Poble’

Twenty-two bars, restaurants, and cafes in Benidorm will pay tribute to the most traditional local cuisine in a new gastronomic event organised by the Abreca hospitality association and the Department of Tourism, as part of the commemorative events for the 700th anniversary of Benidorm's founding as a municipality with its own legal entity, which is being celebrated in 2025. El Torrejó Municipal Center hosted the presentation of this event today, entitled "Menjars del Nostre Poble" (Foods of Our Town), during which the public will be able to sample dishes, tapas, and desserts such as bollos a la paleta (bread rolls), rice with anchovies and spinach, rice with dolphinfish, coca a la calda (a type of flatbread), anise rolls, all i pebre (a garlic and pepper stew), and octopus stew, among many others.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the president of Abreca, Javier del Castillo, explained that these events will take place from November 27th to 30th and that, throughout these four days, “diners will be able to experience those traditional flavors that have been a part of many generations of Benidorm residents' homes and to which we are now paying a well-deserved tribute,” stated the mayor.

Pérez thanked Abreca for “their willingness from the very beginning to get involved and participate in the activities programmed for Benidorm's 700th Anniversary.” Thus, he explained that, within the Commission created for this purpose, “they have had the fantastic collaboration of Barbara Alemany and Juan Fuster to organize these ‘Menjars del Nostre Poble’ (Foods of Our Town), a series of events that are outside the usual ‘Benidorm Gastronómico’ program but perfectly aligned with the same objective: to showcase our gastronomy and our restaurant offerings to the world.”

Therefore, he applauded the twenty-two participating establishments and Abreca “for their contribution to ensuring that our hospitality sector maintains its strength even during the peak season and for recovering and bringing us closer to those traditional dishes and flavours.”

For his part, the president of Abreca emphasised that this hospitality association is “very proud of our local history and of being able to present these events, blending traditional cuisine with the most modern techniques and recovering the gastronomic essence of Benidorm.”

Javier del Castillo stated that the association "wanted to join in the tribute to our town, our city, on this 700th Anniversary, and what better way to do so than by offering these 'Menjars del Nostre Poble' (Foods of Our Town), with extraordinary tapas, dishes, complete menus, and desserts that could rival any Michelin-starred restaurant."

The establishments participating in this gastronomic event are: the bars and restaurants Alameda Gourmet, Círculo Barra Bar, Club Náutico, El Beato, El Bodegón Aurrerá, El Linaje de Castilla, El Mesón, Esturión, Jardín Mediterráneo, L’Abadia, La Cava Aragonesa, La Fava, La Señoría, La Tapería Aurrerá, La Tortillería y Tapas Benidorm, Mal Pas, Malaspina, Marisquería El Puerto, Shija Sabores de los Balcanes, and Pinocchio Playa, and the cafes Aroma Café and La Creu.
