Dozens of people have joined the call on the second day of official mourning decreed after the incident

Benidorm observes a minute of silent for the victims of the devastating fire in Valencia

24 February 2024
Minuto de silencio

Dozens of people gathered at noon today at Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España, where Benidorm City Hall is located, to observe a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the devastating fire of two residential towers in the Valencian neighbourhood of Campanar.

The first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, has presided over this silent rally, which has been reproduced in all the municipalities of the Valencian Community, accompanied by numerous councillors from the Municipal Corporation and other authorities who have joined the call. Among them, the regional secretary of Housing of the Generalitat Valenciana, Sebastián Fernández; or the regional deputy Mario Villar.

For his part, the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, has travelled to Valencia to participate in the minute of silence that was also celebrated in the capital of Turia and, in this way, personally convey his condolences on behalf of the city to the authorities and all those affected by this tragedy, which so far has caused ten fatalities.

Yesterday, Friday, Benidorm City Council decreed three days of official mourning, placing its official flags at half-mast. Likewise, the first expressed the respect and solidarity of the entire city with the ten deceased and their family and friends; with the injured and with the people who have lost everything in this incident, which is already one of the greatest tragedies that Valencia is experiencing in its most recent history.

Likewise, Toni Pérez expressed his gratitude to firefighters, the Police and all the professionals and volunteers of Health and Emergency Services who are working intensely these days to care for and support those affected.
