Benidorm Local Police will launch the ‘Safe Christmas’ campaign next Monday, December 15th, reinforcing police presence in high-traffic areas such as Plaza de la Navidad and the shopping and pedestrian streets of the city centre. This was announced today by the Councillor for Public Service, Jesús Carrobles, who reported that the campaign will run until January 4th and will deploy four officers daily to “complement the regular service.”

The councilor emphasized that “with this campaign, we aim, on the one hand, to bring the attention and service of the Local Police even closer to the public, both residents and tourists, at a time of year when activity in Benidorm increases significantly; and at the same time, to deter or prevent illegal behavior or actions that could disrupt public order.”

In this regard, Carrobles explained that special attention will also be paid to enforcing regulations prohibiting the use of scooters in pedestrian areas, “which are very busy at Christmas”; and added that within the framework of ‘Safe Christmas’, “we are also implementing the campaign by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) focused on preventing driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.”

This daily police reinforcement will be deployed between 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., which “is the period of greatest commercial activity and public presence in the city centre.”

He also clarified that the campaign ends on January 4th because on the 5th, coinciding with the Three Wise Men Parade, the Local Police will deploy a special traffic and security operation along the entire route, which includes the main points covered by ‘Safe Christmas’.

Carrobles added that “during this Christmas season, many people from different towns in the region, the province, or other parts of Spain visit Benidorm and at certain times require information about directions, parking, etc.; people who greatly appreciate being able to count on the Local Police on the street for these matters as well.”
