Benidorm lights up in turquoise color for the World Dyslexia Day

07 October 2020
Benidorm s'il·lumina de blau turquesa pel Dia Mundial de la Dislèxia...

Benidorm joins the celebration of Dyslexia Day by illuminating two emblematic icons of the city in turquoise colour tonight: Castell and Tossal de La Cala.

The color chosen by the Spanish Federation of Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties (FEDIS) has chosen this color because it understands that turquoise is the color that best represents the cause of dyslexia because it is a color with mostly positive connotations for people with dyslexia, since it promotes creativity, calm, serenity, tranquility and relaxation.

The objective of this initiative, Mayor Toni Pérez stressed, is "to make visible this learning disorder that affects approximately four out of every six school failures and dropouts"

Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder that consists of a series of neurobiological-based alterations that affects cognitive processes related to language, reading and writing with mild, moderate or severe implications in the school environment. It manifests itself when naming letters, reciting the alphabet or in simple rhymes, as well as omissions, distortions, slowness and hesitation in reading. None of this has to do with the intelligence of the child or its development possibilities; is, a literacy learning disorder.

From the FEDIS, it is encouraged to publish on Social Networks on the occasion of this celebration with the hashtags #UnidosPorLaDislexia and # DíaMundialDislexia. The Communication platform of the Benidorm City Council will add to the commemoration its accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
