Benidorm joins the technical working group of the Spain Convention Bureau

Benidorm has participated this morning in the meeting of the Governing Council of the Spain Convention Bureau (SCB), the network of local entities that brings together the 57 destinations for congresses, meetings and events, with a minimum capacity of 500 people, in Spain.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, has attended the virtual meeting with his homonyms from Las Palmas, Madrid, Donostia, Barcelona, ​​Almería, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga, Oviedo, Santander, Torremolinos, Cuenca, Valencia, Burgos, Eche and Zamora, as well as the president of the Insular Council of Ibiza.

In the session, the summary of activities for 2020 was presented, reviewing the November actions on the French, Italian and British markets, the promotional activities at the national level, the July assembly and the training sessions and tourism situation. The balance of the MICE tourism activity and the proposals of the working groups have constituted the main part of the report, which has also dealt with the security protocols implemented and actions on social networks.

The activity plan for 2021 was also presented, focused on virtual conferences on the Belgian, French, British and German markets, national promotion, attendance at the IBTM World fair in Barcelona, ​​at the end of November this year and the coordination issues and technical advice.

To highlight, the constitution of the Technical Working Group of the network in which Benidorm is integrated together with Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Burgos, Ibiza, Las Palmas, Madrid, Malaga, San Sebastián, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Sitges and Valencia

Until the outbreak of the pandemic, Spain was one of the leaders in the MICE sector. Spain was the fourth country in the world to hold the most international meetings, according to the ICCA Ranking and only surpassed by the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, with two Spanish cities ranking in the Top5 of the ranking: Barcelona (No. 3) and Madrid (No. 5) . In 2020, 41'29% of scheduled events have been canceled, with 44'08% being postponed. Only 14.63% of the scheduled events have been developed, of which 5.55% have been developed virtually and through mixed formulas, 9.48% of the events. The latter has been the case of the II Digital Tourist which was held in Benidorm on October 15 and 16, since it was canceled, on the recommendation of the Health Authority, on March 12, the V National Congress of Apartments and Vacational Housing Aptur 2020.

The Spain Convention Bureau was established in 1984 within the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), as a specialized section, with the name of the Spanish Section of Congress Cities.
