The project aims to "reduce deterioration in some areas, beautify the city and make walking more pleasant for people," says González de Zárate

Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Parks and Gardens, is carrying out a series of interventions to improve the landscaping and green areas in various areas of the city. Specifically, work is being done on some islands along the Paseo de Poniente and access points to the promenade itself, as well as on all the planters installed throughout the city centre. These actions have been supervised by the Councillor for the department, José Ramón González de Zárate.

Regarding the Paseo de Poniente, from Elche Park to the intersection with Vicente Llorca Alós, the objective is to prevent many users from crossing the garden areas to access the beach or the stairs, which leads to the deterioration of the installed landscaping. To this end, certain elements are being installed to hinder this passage and force people to cross through other areas where they will not harm the plants. In this regard, the councillor expressed his satisfaction because "little by little, we are getting people to access the designated areas." González de Zárate stated that "gardening is gaining ground among those who prefer to shorten their journey, and fewer and fewer of these steps are being used improperly to shorten their journey."

These interventions will be carried out during August and September, and similarly, work will be done on two of the islands along the Paseo that have not yet been addressed. These are the ones containing El Camino de Santiago monument and another one located before reaching Llorca Alós. Both will be covered with artificial turf to improve the appearance of the area and help prevent deterioration. Approximately 300 square meters of this material have been purchased for this purpose. The excess will also be used to fill in other areas that are used by users.

Also along the promenade, the landscaping will be reinforced with the planting of approximately 400 shrubs such as lavender, rosemary, photinia, and lantana, especially in areas where deterioration is most pronounced.

Furthermore, the City Council, through the concessionaire, Actúa, is also working on the nearly 300 planters spread throughout Benidorm's urban centre. Thus, according to González de Zárate, "we are planting between 3,500 and 4,000 plants of different types to fill the more than 280 planters we have throughout the city." The intervention covers all neighbourhoods, and with this, we are helping to add more colour, improve the image, beautify the city, and make walking much more pleasant for citizens." The plants being replaced in the planters are species such as lantana, rosemary, lobelia, dimorphothecas, and gomphrenas. Its installation is expected to be completed by early September.
