Benidorm illuminates the Castell today with rainbow colors to commemorate the ‘International Day against LGTBiphobia’

17 May 2021
Benidorm ilumina hoy el Castell con los colores arcoíris para conmemorar el ‘Día internacional contra la LGTBifobia’

Benidorm's Castle will shine this night with rainbow colors to join the celebration of the 'International Day against LGTBiphobia', a day in which respect for the sexual orientation and identity of all people is vindicated, while condemning intolerance and discrimination that still exists in part of society.

The objective is to adhere to the claims of the LGTBI collective to combat rejection, rejection, damage and discrimination towards gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender and intersex people, behaviors that are classified as hate crimes and that are reportable.

Benidorm is one of the places in Spain and Europe that has more actively joined the visibility of sexual diversity, both with the celebration of events such as Benidorm Pride, and thanks to the work carried out by the Department of Equality.

On the other hand, from the Department of Social Welfare of Benidorm City Council, policies of social inclusion, equality and diversity are being promoted in accordance with the First Municipal Plan for the LGTBI + group. Among them is the creation of a service aimed at individuals, families, relationships and associations that provides professional and comprehensive care, including advice for the elimination of any type of inequality, discrimination, harassment or exclusion.

Jelena Social Center, located on Calle de Los Olivos No. 11 in Benidorm, has an information point on diversity and LGTBI + rights, where information on resources, health, training and rights of the group is also provided.
