'Benidorm fet a mà' promotes the traditional trade in Gambo street

11 April 2018
‘Benidorm fet a mà’ promociona el comercio tradicional de la céntrica calle Gambo

The promotion campaign of the traditional trade 'Benidorm fet a mà', organized by the councils of Commerce and Employment, in collaboration with the first-year students of the Marketing and Advertising degree of IES Pere Maria Orts i Bosch, has moved its cameras to one of the most emblematic and commercial areas of the city: Gambo Street.

The councilors of Commerce, Ana Pellicer, and Employment and Local Development, Mª Jesús Pinto, accompanied the students Vicent Pajarón and Aarón Gómez during the recordings and tested the opinion of the merchants regarding the campaign and the collaboration that the City Council for its development.
Ana Pellicer recalled that, since the rehabilitation of the street in 2008, the area has gained "in influx" in the number of pedestrians that "circulate from the center of the city to the Rincón area". The last municipal action in Gambo, in October 2016, involved the conditioning of the tree pits with recycled rubber paving and the elimination of architectural barriers. To this, Ana Pellicer, added "the recent pedestrianization of Pérez Llorca street", the parallel street, and the future rehabilitation of Avenida del Mediterráneo "which will mean the increase of pedestrians and, ultimately, the conversion of the center of Benidorm in a "shopping city".

On the other hand, Mª Jesús Pinto, is convinced that pedestrianization will revert in customer loyalty and that the "increase in activity" thanks to the urban improvements made by the City will entail "an increase in employment" because "when the stores work, they generate more jobs".

During the tour, the councilors saw how professionals also invest and innovate in the shops. Precisely, one of the establishments that have participated today in 'Benidorm fet a mà', the Specsavers optics, has just added to its services a defibrillator that, if necessary, could save the life of any neighbor or tourist who needs it.

In addition to Specsavers, this morning the spots of Boston Confecciones and Lo Bordamos have been recorded. Next week 'Benidorm fet a mà' cameras will be moved to Jaime I Avenue. The establishments interested in participating can contact the City Council through the e-mail address: comercio@benidorm.org.
