Benidorm expresses its condemnation for the last two sexist murders committed in Móstoles and Fuerteventura

Benidorm City Council has shown today its rejection of the last two confirmed murders due to gender violence committed in Fuerteventura (April 11) and Móstoles (May 11) with a silent rally at Plaza de Sus Majestades Reyes de España, led by the acting mayoress, Ana Pellicer, the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and members of the municipal corporation.

The first of the murders took place on April 11 in Fuerteventura, although it has now been confirmed. A 45-year-old woman was found with signs of violence next to the body of her partner in a hotel in the south of the island. The woman was the mother of three children, one of legal age and two minors. There were no previous complaints of ill-treatment.

The second murdered woman died yesterday after being stabbed in the neck by her partner in the early hours of Monday morning. The 40-year-old victim lived in Móstoles. It was her son who raised the alarm and later the neighbors called 112. The woman remained hospitalized for three days in critical condition. An attacker is a 52-year-old man about whom there is no record or previous complaints.

With these two there are already 16 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,200 since 2003, the date on which the victims of gender violence began to be counted.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
