Local and National Police presence and several streets in Rincón de Loix will be closed to traffic

Benidorm establishes a special preventive control for the Euro Cup final

11 July 2024

Benidom is going to deploy a special preventive control next Sunday with a special presence in Rincón de Loix ahead of the final of the European Football Championship, which will pit the national teams of Spain and England against each other. This was announced today by the Councilor for Citizen Security, Jesús Carrobles, after a special meeting of the Public Service Board, in which the entire operation was designed. The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, participated in this meeting along with the local commissioner of the National Police, Ceferino Serrano; the chief mayor of the Local Police, Luis Martín Arévalo; and other members of both bodies and staff of the City Council itself, in addition to the mayor of Street Cleaning, Luis Navarro.

Carrobles has indicated that the police presence that has been designed for this meeting will have ten patrols from the Local Police, reinforced by patrols from the UIP and UPR groups of the National Police. Likewise, there will also be aerial surveillance, in which two drones will participate, one from the Local Police Air Unit and another from the National Police. The councillor explained that this operation “has a preventive nature.” "Its function is to be able to anticipate any behaviour that at any given time may occur on roads and public spaces, thus ensuring that the fans of the two teams can enjoy the matches and that no incidents or incidents occur in the city”, explained the councillor.

Especially, taking into account that the large number of Spanish fans who will follow the game to see 'La Roja' are also joined by the thousands of English tourists and residents who are spending their holidays in the city these days, many of whom will also experience the Meeting on terraces, hotels and bars in Rincón de Loix.

The device will start three hours before the match, when police reinforcement will begin. From there, and as the time of the match approaches, traffic will be cut off on some streets in that area, including Gerona Street in the section between Europa and Derramador avenues and their adjacent ones, as explained by the councilor. Likewise, starting the night before, parking will also be restricted and vehicles parked on these roads will be removed, in order to facilitate the movement of people.
