The MOVELE Plan, coinciding with the European Mobility Week, proposes the creation of new charging points

Benidorm draws up its Electric Mobility Plan, with which it will promote recharging points for vehicles

20 September 2022
MOVELE

Benidorm City Council has drafted a MOVELE Plan (for Electric Mobility) with which "the installation of new recharging points for vehicles will be promoted, considerably expanding the current municipal network". This was announced today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, coinciding with the European Mobility Week during the visit to the new municipal charging point installed on Severo Ochoa avenue.

The MOVELE Plan, which was presented today by the chief engineer Vicente Mayor and which will soon take place in a plenary session, has been drawn up within the scope of the contractual obligations of the company awarded the Exterior Plus street furniture, and has had the collaboration of the company electricity distributor I-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes. In short, the document proposes "to implement at least 278 poles in 68 points in the city."

The mayor has highlighted that "it is a totally realistic objective", since in the distribution and implementation proposal "we have been absolutely consistent, including only those sites in which we know that there is energy sufficiency, as well as the necessary investment for it ”.

In addition to the locations, the MOVELE Plan includes the technical characteristics of each of the recharging points, giving priority to those of "fast charging" that is "the most used by users", according to the usage data available at City Hall. Some data that certify, highlighted by Toni Pérez, "the enormous exponential increase in the use of the network of free municipal recharging points, currently made up of nine points, part of them fast charging".

Thus, it has gone from 1.76 loads of one hour per day in 2018 to 44.59 loads of one hour per day in 2022. So far this year, in addition, 1,166 users have been registered, of which “80% correspond to vehicles that are not registered in Benidorm”. "The fact that eight out of ten vehicles that use the recharging service are from visitors also shows the tourist projection of the sustainable city", he added.

Toni Pérez recalled that "in parallel to the implementation of new recharging points, whose energy costs are currently assumed by the City Council, the aim is to promote the use of electric or hybrid vehicles by discounting 75% of the Mechanical Traction Vehicle Tax". In addition, "both the City Council itself and the municipal concessionaires are progressively incorporating electric or biogas vehicles into their fleets."
