Benidorm condemns the murder of a woman and her two 8-year-old children at the hands of her partner in the province of Barcelona
Benidorm City Council showed this Thursday its rejection and condemnation of the latest crime related to sexist violence confirmed in our country by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence and which has resulted in three victims, a woman and her two children. The Town Hall Square has hosted a silent rally led by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, the councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and members of the Municipal Corporation have also participated.
The crime occurred last Tuesday in the town of El Prat del Llobregat, in the province of Barcelona, where a man murdered his 43-year-old partner and their two twin children, a girl and an 8-year-old boy. Later, he took his own life.
This murder brings to 9 the number of women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far this year and to 1,249 the victims of sexist violence since 2003 when the statistics began. Likewise, so far in 2024, 7 minors have lost their lives in our country as a result of vicarious violence, the cruellest expression of violence against women. Since 2013, 57 minors have been murdered in Spain for this same cause.
The Department of Equality, headed by Councilor Ángela Zaragozí, recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, she reiterates that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the cell phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
