Benidorm condemns murder of three women in a black weekend of gender violence

Benidorm has condemned on Monday the murder of three women at the hands of their partners or ex-partners in a black weekend of gender violence. Members of the municipal corporation, led by the mayor and the councilwoman of Equality, Toni Pérez and Angela Llorca; municipal workers; neighborhood representatives and social organizations have concentrated this noon at the gates of the City Hall where they have observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims. The first case was registered on Friday in Santiago de Compostela. The victim, a 30-year-old woman, was allegedly assaulted at her home by her ex-husband and died on Sunday as a result of her injuries. Hours later, a 25-year-old girl was found dead and with obvious signs of violence in the hall of the building where she resided in Vigo. Police have arrested a work collegue of the victim, who attempted to commit suicide and with whom long ago had had sentimental relationship. The third murder was recorded on Sunday, after a man confessed he had killed his partner in the town of Pobla de Mafumet (Tarragona). So far this year 43 women have been killed by their couples or ex-partners, although there are eight cases that are still under investigation to determine.
