Benidorm commemorates the 694th anniversary of its Poblament Charter with a week of cultural and festive events
Benidorm commemorates this week the 694th anniversary of the granting of the Charter of Poblament by l'Almirall Bernat de Sarrià with a week of cultural and festive events. The councilman of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, and the representatives of the Grup Carta de Poblament Esperanza Rostoll, José Mª Mariana and José Sanchís have announced the program of events that accompany the anniversary of "one of the most important days" for Benidorm, the one of its foundation.
A program of events that starts this afternoon with the presentation of the book 'Gat vell, dites marineres', by the doctor in Philology Francesc Xavier Llorca Ibi. The presentation will take place at 20.30 in the Casa del Fester, and will be borne by the philologist Rafael Alemany, who like Llorca Ibi has the cultural distinction 'Ciutat de Benidorm'.
The mayor of Fiestas has indicated that "the main act" of this commemoration is the performance of the granting of the Poblament Charter, in which the members of the group of the same name and supporters participate, and that "it is celebrated on Saturday, May 11 at Plaça de Sant Jaume ". Carrobles has been convinced of the "massive participation of supporters and neighbors" in this event, which will begin at 9:00 pm, and which will have as a supporter José Vicente García Ramos, researcher of the CSIC and theater director.
As regards the rest of the events of this monographic week, on Wednesday, May 8, and coinciding with the exact date when Benidorm was founded in 1325, the municipal corporation will hold an institutional plenary at noon, in the Plenary Hall of the Town hall. Already in the afternoon, the sainete 'Pudo Suceder' will be performed, a work by Vanessa Navarro, member of Carta de Poblament Group; and on Thursday there will be a concert by the Unión Musical de Benidorm at 8.30 pm in the Assembly Hall of the City Council.
The following day, the students of the 6th grade of Ausiàs March public school will represent 'The granting of the Poblament Charter'. A performance that "for the first time" leaves the school premises and can be seen from 7.30 pm also in the Assembly Hall, as detailed by Esperanza Rostoll.
In the organization of the commemorative acts of the Charter of Poblament have worked together the Department of Fiestas; Culture, directed by Ana Pellicer; the Grup Carta de Poblament; and Associació de Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge'.
Medieval Market
For the fourth consecutive year, as recalled by Carrobles, the acts of commemoration of the Poblament Charter are complemented by a medieval market organized by the Independent Association of Merchants (AICO) in collaboration with the Department of Commerce and Festivities.
