Benidorm Unión Musical pays tribute to its musicians and members with an acclaimed concert at the Cultural Center

Benidorm Unión Musical Symphonic Band paid its traditional tribute to the organisation's musicians and members yesterday, Saturday, with a highly acclaimed concert in the Cultural Centre's auditorium. The audience practically filled the venue to enjoy a varied repertoire masterfully performed by the UMB musicians, who will commemorate their centenary next year. Benidorm City Councillor for Culture Jaime Jesús Perez, along with other members of the municipal council, accompanied the Musical Union in this moving concert, led by its director, Rafa Gómez Parra. The recital began with the pasodoble "Daniela Gómez de los Ángeles," composed by Sergi Pastor and dedicated to the 2018 Valencian Fallera Mayor child singer. The musicians then performed "Ross Roy" by Jacob de Haan, before moving on to one of the highlights of the program: the premiere of the march "Segària," dedicated to this mountain range in the Marina Alta and composed by Bernabé Sanchís. The composer himself previously presented the work to the audience before giving it its first public performance, which included a highly applauded clarinet solo by musician Antonio Santonja, whom the conductor later awarded the organisation's medal.
"Goddes of Fire" by Steven Reineke; "Romance" by Andreés Valero; and "Jupiter (The Planets)" by Gustav Holst completed the repertoire, after which the musicians treated the audience to an encore, choosing the pasodoble "Soñad del mar" by Manuel Morales.
During the recital, the UMB Councilor for Culture and musician, Jaime Jesús Pérez; the president of the organization, Mari Carmen García; and the director, Rafa Gómez Parra, presented bronze, silver, gold, and gold and diamond medals to the musicians who have reached five, ten, 25, and 50 years, respectively, as members of the organization.
