Benidorm collects contributions to improve the accessibility of future exhibitions at Museu Boca del Calvari

The Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage, directed by Ana Pellicer, is seeking contributions and suggestions to "improve the accessibility of future exhibitions that we carry out at the Museu Boca del Calvari, to continue to advance in this area". Pellicer  transferred that "For some time now we are using technology and including specific resources so that people with different types of disabilities can have a more complete experience when they visit an exhibition in our museum."

As explained by the mayor, "to ensure that the initiatives, innovations or solutions that are implemented are effective and cover the needs of people with disabilities, we have chosen to contact them directly so that they can transfer us, first of all, their suggestions and evaluation of what we are already doing”. Later on, "as we specify these contributions, we will also ask them to test and check the tools or resources to verify that the accessibility demanded is met."

As an initial step in this initiative, Pellicer, together with the blind young Quico Saval, has toured the exhibitions currently on display at Boca del Calvari, 'Guardián del Mar' and 'Guardianes de Piedra'. During the visit to the Museum, the young man tested the models for people with visual disabilities that are included in both samples; and he has transferred "proposals for improvement" with a view to future exhibitions to make it easier for "the visitor to obtain the maximum information and sensations from their visit", the councilor pointed out.

The person in charge of Historical and Cultural Heritage advanced that "after this first visit with Quico, the intention is to extend the proposal to other groups to cover the entire spectrum of accessibility and adopt solutions that allow us to attend to different types of disabilities, whether of a visual, auditory or mobility”.

Pellicer stressed that "accessibility is one of the main important issues on which the DTI -Smart Tourist Destination- pivots and, therefore, a bet and a commitment for Benidorm". "An accessibility -he specified- that we want to reach all areas, including our historical and cultural heritage, as demonstrated not only by this initiative, but also by the actions carried out in El Castell or Tossal de la Cala site to make them more accessible, and having chosen to bring the Navilens people guidance system to our old town, which in the short term will allow us to add information about our most important cultural enclaves”.
