More than 4,000 peñistas participate in a fun weekend full of activities

Benidorm clubs celabrate their traditional Camping in El Murtal

The mayor, Toni Pérez, together with the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, and members of the government team and the opposition participated this morning in the 'picaeta' that the fiestas collective prepares every year. They were joined by the provincial deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate; the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Angélica Morenilla, and Daniela Talavera and their court of honor; and the president of the Commission, Vicente Solaz.

More than 4,000 peñistas from 178 peñas joined the camp this year. Yesterday, Friday, they began to occupy a completely fenced and marked-out area, with all that is required in this type of mass event, such as water and electricity intakes, portable toilets, private security, or health support with several ambulances and the Red Cross. To this we must add the Municipal Services on duty, Local Police, and Civil Protection.

Compared to the previous edition, for this occasion, the City Council set up a park-and-ride with a capacity for 400 vehicles, created new direct pedestrian access to the camping area in addition to the existing ones previously, and expanded the area to facilitate access. Likewise, the line 2 bus service that connects with the center, Elche Park, and Rincón de Loix has been expanded and a taxi rank has been installed at the entrance to the area.

Throughout the weekend, the campers will be able to enjoy healthy coexistence in one of the green lungs of the city and carry out activities, games for children, contests, and musical shows. In addition, the Department of Social Welfare has launched the 'Coneixement' campaign for another year, from the Unit for Community Prevention in Addictive Behaviors (UPCCA), to raise awareness among peñistas about responsible consumption. For its part, the Department of Equality has installed a 'purple point' to promote a party free of harassment.
