Benidorm closes secondary accesses to the city to better control compliance with mobility restrictions

08 April 2020
Benidorm cierra los accesos secundarios a la ciudad para controlar mejor el cumplimiento de las restricciones de movilidad

Benidorm City Council closes from this Thursday, April 9, the secondary accesses to the city for "greater control over the mobility of people" and better monitoring of compliance with the mobility restrictions because of the state of alarm decreed on the occasion of the sanitary crisis of the coronavirus. This has been announced today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, in a telematic press conference in which he reported that the city will only be accessible through the “points enabled as mandatory accesses and that correspond to the five main entrances to Benidorm: Villajoyosa, Juan Pablo II, Beniardá, Comunidad Europea and Comunidad Valenciana avenues ”. Outside these points, "there will be a total restriction of access to the city."

This "special device" starts tomorrow at 07.00 hours and it works in coordination with the City Council, the Local Police and the National Police. A device, has remarked the mayor, who comes to reinforce the controls on mobility that have been carried out since the state of alarm was decreed.

Toni Pérez has pointed out that this device coincides with the beginning of "Easter holidays" and there should be "a decrease in the circulation of vehicles" and the activity in some sectors authorized to work during the state of alarm.

To questions from journalists, the mayor has clarified that this "greater control over mobility is not done exclusively by people who may come to Benidorm to their second residence, but also to ensure that there are no unauthorized movements in the locality local or neighbors of the region ”. At this point, he has indicated that to date the Security Forces have not detected the arrival of people from other parts of the Spanish geography.

During his appearance, the mayor highlighted the "behavioral model" of Benidorm citizens "when complying with the confinement", showing "their solidarity"; as well as the work carried out from minute one related to mobility by the Local Police, National Police, Civil Guard and the different municipal areas.
