In addition to flushing and disinfection, it includes the removal of belongings and possible spills, especially in the new El Moralet park

Benidorm carries out an extraordinary cleaning campaign this month that will reach all neighborhoods and parking lots

Benidorm realiza una campaña extraordinaria de limpieza este mes que llegará a todos los barrios y parkings disuasorios

Benidorm City Council, through the concessionary company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), is going to carry out an extraordinary cleaning campaign during this month that will reach all the neighbourhoods and park-and-ride parks in the city. The councillor of Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that "2022 has been a summer of maximum tourist occupancy, in which, precisely because of this overcrowding, maintenance work has been more complex, despite the significant special reinforcement device that has operated throughout the summer season, with 51 'extra' operators, more vans, more pressure washers and more irrigation and washing tanks”.

During the summer “cleaning has been intensified at the busiest points, and although action has been taken throughout the city, it has not been possible to do so in all corners with the same depth and thoroughness as at other times of the year. Hence, now that the occupation and the volume of people have decreased, we can allocate more means to this extraordinary campaign and reach all points of the municipal area, including peripheral green areas.

As detailed by De Zárate, "in the neighbourhoods there will be washdowns with three buckets daily, two at night and a third during the day." In addition, "there will be action with pressure washers, in 'extra' shifts in the morning and afternoon, in disinfection and washdown work in all the parks and their bio-healthy spaces." There will also be extraordinary services in the dissuasive car parks -which "they have had during the summer and continue to have intensive use"- and in the green and rural areas, "proceeding to the removal of possible belongings and possible spills, placing great emphasis on the environment of the new park of El Moralet”.

The mayor has specified that "we calculate that in 30 days, this action will have reached all areas", and has stressed that "the results of this extraordinary effort can only be maintained over time with the collaboration of all". “Keeping our streets clean and free of odours is a task in which we must all get involved: the City Council, the concessionaire company and citizens. Only with the collaboration of the three parties can we ensure that the result of this extraordinary cleaning operation lasts and can be maintained on a day-to-day basis”, he deepened.

In this sense, De Zárate has asked pet owners to "collaborate as much as possible by collecting the excrement of their animals and also, as far as possible, to do the same with the urine"; and he has reminded the neighbours that "the schedule to deposit the garbage bags in the containers located on the street is from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m."

Likewise, he has pointed out that "citizens who have belongings in their homes can call the FCC, at the telephone number 965855116, to make an appointment for their collection."

Reuse of water from the Palau pool for washing

Also in relation to the city's cleaning tasks, the councillor has reported that "for another year, we have reused the water from the Palau d'Esports l'Illa swimming pool to flush our streets for approximately 10 days". De Zárate recalled, "every year when the pool is emptied at the end of August to carry out maintenance work, we carry out this same operation of collecting and reusing this water, thus guaranteeing maximum use". In total, between both glasses of the pool, they add more than 400,000 litres of water.

The councillor has advanced that "as on previous occasions, we ask the communities of owners who are going to empty their swimming pools after the summer for reasons of leaks, maintenance, etc., that instead of pouring it into the sewer system, they notify the City Council or the FCC so that to be able to capture that water and to be able to reuse it also for washing down”.
