Benidorm asks the Provincial Council a grant for the first phase of the Parque de la Séquia Mare

16 June 2017
Benidorm pide a Diputación una subvención para la primera fase del Parque de la Séquia Mare

The project is valued at about 468,000 euros, and envisages two areas of multi-adventure and exercises, another children's and a skateboard type 'bowl'

Benidorm City Council is going to tackle this year the first phase of construction of Parque de la Séquia Mare, a green space very close to the urban network to which the local government intends to give an environmental and sporting use. This project drafted by the municipal technicians is valued at 467,314.49 euros and covers an area of about 25,000 square meters centered mainly on the pinewood that borders on the remains of the Sequia Mare.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, has reported that "a grant of 280,000 euros has been requested to the Diputación Provincial de Alicante" which is "the maximum amount per population that corresponds to Benidorm within the call for grants for sustainable investments", which this year "are linked as a priority to repair infrastructure affected by recent storms".

Pérez clarified that "by the very basis of this call is complicated to match this subsidy" for damages "with those already requested to the Central Government and the Generalitat" for the same purpose. Hence, with the conviction that these two administrations will attend the requested aid, "we have asked the Provincial Council that the subsidy in favor of the City Council be converted into nominative and destined to a project that is financially sustainable and that has already been presented In Alicante: the construction of the first phase of the Parque de la Séquia Mare ".

According to the mayor, the project contemplates "the creation of several recreational and sports areas, linked together by a series of footpaths and cyclists perfectly integrated in the environment and which rely, in most cases, on terraces and platforms already Existing so that the condition to the natural environment is minimal ". Thus, a playground has been designed for adolescent and adult children with elements such as zip lines, three-dimensional net or climbing circuit; A playground for children; and an area of ecoparque and multi-adventure with walkways, ropes, nets and other elements made largely of trees coming from pruning. These zones will be executed with laminated wood for their "perfect integration" in the environment.

In addition to taking part in the pinewood, the project plans to do so in the vicinity of the skateboard built last year, just to complete this with a 'bowl' -battle- requested by the young. There will also be run several paths that will join the new spaces with the point where there is projected a gateway connecting with the neighborhood Els Tolls across the street Italy.

Pérez has indicated that "the 280,000 euros that have been requested from the Grant Deputation correspond to approximately 60% of the cost of the project", and has remarked that the "budgetary provision" for the City Council to assume its share.

The period of execution of this first phase is three months from the award of the work in municipal headquarters.
