Each donation can save three lives. More than 200 donors are expected on a day that moves for the first time to the City Hall lobby
Associació de Penyes invites to the XX Festa de la Solidaritat
The Association of Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge' announces the 20th Festa de la Solidaritat, a day of blood donation to which members of the clubs, neighbors and visitors are invited and will take place on Tuesday, September 17, starting at 9.30 in the lobby of the town hall building.
The Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, together with the delegate of the Blood Transfusion Center of Alicante, Paca Ferrer, and the president of the Peñistas, Coly Pérez, today have presented the event that aims to exceed 200 blood donations and in which medulla can also be donated.
This is the second donation organized by the Association this year, recalled Carrobles, which shows "that people from Benidorm are very supportive." There are now twenty editions of Festa de la Solidaritat, an event that "has set in the festive calendar" and not only in Benidorm. "We have copied it in many other municipalities in the province, which is reason to congratulate," said the councilor.
For the first time, donations will not be at Casa del Fester. "Because it is not big enough," said Paca Ferrer, trusting that this time "they will overcome the previous results by far." To be a blood donor you must weigh more than 50 kilos, be between 18 and 65 years old, in good health and go well hydrated to the transfusion center. The volunteers then receive a fruit-based snack “with Alicante certificate of origin - says Ferrer- and a gift, the donor's bracelet and a bag”.
"With each donation - says Ferrer - three lives are saved." If we take into account that in the previous editions of Festa de la Solidaritat there have been around 200, 600 people could save their lives thanks to the solidarity of Benidorm. Ferrer also notes that “more than 10% of the participants are new donors,” which increases the social fabric involved. “When Benidorm is called, Benidorm responds,” says the representative of the Transfusion Center.
For his part, Coly Pérez, has encouraged the entire society of Benidorm "and not only the party world" to participate. In addition, the Association, throughout the day, will collect non-perishable food items that will be subsequently donated to Caritas.
