More than 700 students have participated in different categories touring the historical center of the city
Benidorm inaugurated the 2017 season of running with the second longest race of the Valencian Community, the Cross El Calvari, which this year is its 38th edition, organized jointly by the Department of Sports, Festa El Calvari and Club Athletics Benidorm and in which 131 athletes participated.
In absolute category the winner was the athlete of C.A. Carmona Agustín Sieres who reached the finish with a time of 25:18, followed by the athlete of La Nucía Javier Mayor (26'20 ''), while the third place went to Andrés Fernández of CA Benidorm (26'52 '') whose test had a distance of 7,750 meters, and that crossed the district El Calvari and Levante promenade.
In females, the winner was the athlete from Benidorm, Sonia Tirado (31'26 ''), followed by athletes from the Athletic Club Cárnicas, Raquel Almiñana and Merche Ábalos (31'50 '') with identical time.
After the test came the turn of the school children, where more than 700 students from schools in Benidorm travelled different distances in cadet category, children, juvenile, prebenjamín and babies, crowding the streets of Benidorm downtown.
Lastly and on the occasion of the Cross El Calvari were awarded Diego Cano Enguera awards, which are annually awarded to a festive entity and an athlete or sports entity. Some prizes that are celebrating their 20th anniversary and that were for the tennis player María Martínez - currently number 36 in the national ranking and who has been a member of the Spanish National Team - and for Penya La Soca in the festive setting.
