The students have attended the performance of 'Mamut' by Markeliñe company

900 students from all the Primary schools in Benidorm attend the 'Joves Espectadors' cycle

01 March 2024
900 alumnos de todos los colegios de Primaria de Benidorm acuden al ciclo ‘Joves Espectadors’

Around 900 Primary students from all the city's public and private schools have come to the theatre today with a new edition of the 'Young Spectators' cycle, promoted by the Departments of Culture and Education.

Throughout the morning, the students, divided into two sessions, attended the performance of the play 'Mamut', by Markeliñe company. It is a play in which three hominid characters take refuge from the threat of wolves next to the skeletal remains of a mammoth. In a constant fight for survival, they decide to understand each other, cooperate and create together, despite their differences. The mammoth and its bones will become utensils and tools for creativity.

The Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, who attended the first screening together with the Councilor for Education, highlighted that “carrying out this initiative in the Cultural Center auditorium allows us to reach more Primary students.” He has also indicated that the objective is to “familiarize children with the performing arts through a play that also has an educational component.”
For her part, the councillor for Education, Maite Moreno, explained that this cycle “is one of the proposals that throughout the course from the City Council we offer to the educational centres of Benidorm to complement their curricular activities and that, in addition, serve “as a meeting point between the students of the different schools in our city.”

Students from the Leonor Canalejas, Ausiàs March, Gabriel Miró, Vasco Núñez de Balboa, Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Miguel Hernández, Lope de Vega and Mestre Gaspar López schools attended the first screening of 'Joves Espectadors'. In the second pass, at 11:30 a.m., it was the turn of Els Tolls, La Cala, Aitana, Puig Campana, El Murtal, Bautista Lledó, Serra Gelada and Costablanca International College.

The play 'Mamut' can also be seen tomorrow, Saturday, March 2, in a screening aimed at children and families at 6 p.m. at the Cultural Center.
The Markeliñe company has a history of more than 35 years in the theatre scene. Since its beginnings, it has worked in gestural and visual theatre based on original creation. He has received numerous important national and international awards and has performed on all continents with these wordless shows.
