About us
This conservatory began its educational journey in 1984 as the Marina Baixa Regional Music School. It became a Professional Conservatory in 1995.
In it, its 26 teachers provide official music lessons corresponding to 15 instrumental specialities to an annual average of 300 students who come from various towns in the province.
Every year, an average of 11 new graduates in different instruments leave their classrooms, many of whom continue their Higher Studies in different Spanish and foreign Conservatories.
Apart from the usual auditions and concerts included in the Conservatory Programming, our students collaborate with various socio-cultural and educational entities, both local and neighbouring towns.
In recent years, a series of exchanges have been carried out between different Conservatories, both from our Community and the rest of the country and even abroad. To date, we have been very lucky to have students from the Conservatories of San Vicente del Raspeig, Banyeres de Mariola, Altea, El Ferrol, Kópavogur (Iceland) and Velstfold (Norway) visit us.
The Chamber Orchestra of our Conservatory returned to the Icelandic town of Kópavogur from April 28 to May 2, 2007.
Also, the Professional Grade Band corresponded to the visit of the El Ferrol Conservatory, travelling to this Galician town in 2008.
For several editions, our different orchestral formations have offered the opening concert of the International Music Courses held in Benidorm, having had the privilege of performing alongside figures of the stature of the flautist Benoît Fromanger, the saxophonist Pedro Iturralde and the trumpeter Maurice Andre.
In the 2010/2011 academic year, a concert tour was held in the Norwegian towns of Oslo and Hamar by the Professional Teaching Choir and an exchange between our Piano Department and that of the Palma de Mallorca Conservatory. The Majorcan Conservatory Orchestra returned to visit us in April 2012, offering a magnificent concert together with our Professional Education Orchestra.
Within his social work, the charity concerts held in favour of the Sahrawi People and A.F.A (Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Patients) should be highlighted.
As the first activity of the 2012/2013 academic year, on October 25 and 26, the Vestfold Young String Orchestra (Norway) will visit, offering, together with the Professional Teaching Orchestra of our Conservatory, a concert integrated into the Project of Exchanges that has been developing for 10 years.
JOSÉ PÉREZ BARCELÓ
He was born in Benidorm in 1917 and died in 1993. A watchmaker by profession, he was linked to Music since his childhood, becoming a member of the Band of this town with the trombone. In the 70s, from the Presidency of the Benidorm Musical Union, he promoted this entity and everything that Music and Culture meant at the time in his hometown. He remained in office for 15 years and was named, at the end of it, “Honorary President” of this Musical Society.
Maestro Bernabé Sanchís Porta composed the pasodoble that bears his name, acquiring great popularity and being performed with great success at festivals throughout Spain and abroad. In gratitude and recognition of his work in favour of Music and Culture, Benidorm City Council agrees to name the Professional Conservatory of Music of this town after him.
