The Municipal Archive recovers two promotional films of 16 and 35 mm of Benidorm from the 70s and 80s

L'Arxiu Municipal recupera dos pel·lícules de 16 i 35 mm promocionals del Benidorm dels anys 70 i 80...

Viewing both audiovisual documents allows you to see the evolution of the city in just 10 years

The Municipal Archive of Benidorm has recovered two films of 16 and 35 mm promoting the city dated in the 70s and 80s of the last century. The Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, explained that "both films were in the Municipal Archive but until now we had not been able to know their content, since we lacked the technical means to reproduce them."

As the councillor has detailed, "through an agreement with the Valencian Film Library we have been able to solve this issue since the entity dependent on the Institut Valencià de Cultura has been in charge of digitizing both films, now also assuming their conservation and custody."

The first of the films, 16 millimeters and entitled "El Próximo año Benidorm", was shot and produced 45 years ago. A good part of the team in charge of the promotional video were professionals from the city. Throughout its just over 17 minutes, some of the main tourist resources that arose in Benidorm in the 70s or that were popularized or were still in vogue at that time are exhibited. "We speak, for example, of Cable Sky, of the first nightclubs and nightclubs or of the legendary Limón Express, as complements to our beaches and our accommodation offer and to our natural environment," said Pellicer.

Regarding the second film, ‘Benidorm’, “we do not know exactly what year it was shot, but we do know that it had to be from 1985, since it includes images of Aqualandia water park”. This 35-millimeter, little more than 7-minute film “collects new landmarks in the urban scene of the city that will materialize in the following years, such as Parque de l'Aigüera, and shows new tourist resources linked to nightlife and entertainment. daytime and with family, or our festivities ”.

Pellicer has stressed that "in addition to showing the evolution of the city and leaving us images to remember such as our Levante beach with awnings, these audiovisual documents have great value from the point of view of research." Thus, she has highlighted that "they allow studying the evolution of tourism promotion and marketing in Benidorm and analyzing the changes that in just one decade occurred in aspects such as language, communication, image or the tourist products that were promoted" .

The head of Historical Heritage has indicated that "we are studying formulas and alternatives to publicize the content of both promotional videos", and has advanced that "we will continue working in the coming months to recover and digitize all the existing audiovisual promotional material in the Municipal Archive, dated after those rescued now ”.
