Hundreds of people celebrate International Yoga Day on Levante Beach

22 June 2019
Cientos de personas celebran en la playa de Levante el Día Internacional del Yoga

Benidorm joined yesterday Friday to celebrate the International Day of Yoga that is celebrated in major cities in Spain and around the world. The event was promoted by the yoga platform 'Yogis on the Beach', with the collaboration of the Benidorm City Council and various sports and yoga centers.

More than 200 'yogis' among teachers, parents and children gathered yesterday at Biblioplaya de Levante to commemorate the International Day of Yoga, promoted by the United Nations.

The event began at 7:00 p.m. with a family yoga practice, in which children and parents enjoyed this discipline and meditation through play, since each yoga posture symbolizes an animal or an aspect of nature.

At 20:00 hours the practice for adults began, in which a large number of yoga teachers from Benidorm and l'Alfàs del Pi participated. The event concluded with a group meditation and a concert of harmonic bowls accompanied by a gong bath, through which the participants could experience a state of deep relaxation thanks to the vibration produced by this instrument.

In less than a year the movement 'Yogis on the Beach', promoter of the activity, has managed to bring together a large number of centers and yoga teachers, and bring this discipline to thousands of people in the area. His goal is to continue expanding yoga.

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice of ancient tradition that originated in India. The word 'yoga' comes from Sanskrit and means unity, because it symbolizes the union of body and mind. This celebration, promoted by the United Nations, aims to raise awareness among the population of the benefits of practicing this discipline for a healthy lifestyle.
