Boca del Calvari
Gaspar Ortuño Ors was born in Benidorm on May 13, 1835. He was Consul of Spain in Costa Rica and co-founder, administrator and member of the Union Bank, which later it was Costa Rica Bank , the main banking institution in the country.
He donated to Benidorm, between 1909 and 1916, the building where the City Museum is located now. His intention was that the city had a worthy place for municipal offices and where the Mayor and Councillors could meet.
The Town Hall was placed in this building, as well as the municipal prison, until the mid- 1970s, then the municipal offices were moved to a site donated by Leonor Canalejas at El Torrechó Square .
The only condition set for the donation was that the City Council took charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the Ortuño’s mausoleum, located in the Cemetery "Nuestra Señora del Sufragio ".
