Unión Musical and Rondalla of ACR La Barqueta offer their concerts on the occasion of the Cultural Week of Mayor Patron Saint Festivities
Benidorm Unión Musical band and La Barqueta Cultural and Recreational Association's Rondalla (a type of string ensemble) gave concerts today as part of the Festes Mayors Patronals (the main patron saint festivities), within the framework of the Setmana Cultural (cultural week) organised for these celebrations.
With the Cultural Center auditorium nearly full, Unión Musical band, under the direction of Rafa Gómez Parra, gave a concert at 11:00 a.m. that delighted the audience, which included the mayor, Toni Pérez; the councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez; other members of the city council; the queens of the Major Patron Saint Festivities, Paula Pascual Sánchez and Aitana Pérez Gutiérrez, and their ladies-in-waiting; the president of the Comissió (festival committee), Susana Martínez; the president of the Musical Union, Mari Carmen García; and the director and honorary members of the organization.
The program for the event consisted of the following pieces: ‘Light Cavalry’ (Overture) by Franz von Suppé; ‘La puerta grande’ by Elvira Checa Gil; ‘El gato montés’ by Manuel Penella Moreno; ‘Alaska’ by Azael Tormo; ‘Aires Llevantins’ by Bernabé Sanchís Porta; ‘Churumbelerias’ by Emilio Cebrián Ruiz; ‘El baile de Luis Alonso’ by Gerónimo Giménez y Bellido; ‘Agüero’ by José Franco Ribate; and ‘España Cañí’ by Pascual Marquina Narro.
Before the concert ended, Unión Musical band presented a gift to the queens of the Major Patron Festivities and also presented the honorary baton to Rafael Doménech to close the event.
Later, at 1 p.m., La Barqueta Cultural and Recreational Association's String Orchestra, under the direction of José Antonio Pastor Ruiz, gave a concert in the parish church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna, as part of the same program of the Setmana Cultural de les Festes Majors Patronals (Cultural Week of the Patron Saint Festivities), organised by the Departments of Culture and Fiestas in collaboration with the Fiestas Committee.
The event was attended by numerous citizens and members of this cultural association, led by its president, Francisco Llorens Orts, known as ‘Rosera’, as well as the queens of the Patron Saint Festivities, along with their courts of honour; the president of the 2024 Fiestas Committee, Susana Martínez Sanz; and other festival participants. Also in attendance were the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, along with the councillors for Culture and Fiestas, Jaime Jesús Pérez and Mariló Cebreros, and other representatives of the City Council.
The program performed consisted of the following works: ‘Gladiator: The Battle’ soundtrack by Hans Zimmer; ‘Romanos y Villanos’ (Roman March) by Nacho Castillo; ‘Los niños del Piero’ soundtrack by Manos Madjidakis; ‘Aires andaluces’ by Eduardo Lucena; ‘Verbena and Vanilla’ by José Antonio Esteban Lapeña; ‘Volver’ by Carlos Gardel; ‘Valencianeta’ by Luis Martí; ‘Molinos de viento’ by Pablo Luna; ‘Marcha de amistad’ by Jacinto Guerrero; and the chotis ‘Guitarras y bandurrias’ by Soutullo and Vert. ‘Fiesta en Benidorm’ by Rafael Doménech Pardo was also performed as an encore.
The next event in the Cultural Week will take place this Tuesday, November 4th, with a theatrical performance of ‘Don Juan Tenorio’ by Tossal Teatre and Alpi Teatre. It will be at 8:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the City Hall.
