The two books by Orts i Bosch about Virgin of Suffrage, republished in a book that will be presented this Thursday in Benidorm

12 February 2025
Libro Pere Maria Orts i Bosch

Benidorm Town Hall Assembly Hall will host tomorrow, Thursday, the presentation of a new literary work that brings together in one book the two publications signed by the historian Pere Maria Orts i Bosch on the Virgin of Suffrage: ‘Una imagen de la Virgen en Benidorm’ (1965) and ‘Arribada d’una imatge de la Verge a Benidorm’ (1972). This reissue has been produced by the publishing house Vicente J. Sanjuán and has the collaboration of the Department of Culture of Benidorm Town Hall, as well as the Associació d’Estudis de la Marina Baixa (Aemaba) and the Cultural and Recreational Association La Barqueta.

The Councillor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, has announced that the presentation of this new publication will take place from 7 pm in the Assembly Hall and that admission is free until full capacity is reached.

Jaime Jesús Pérez has explained that this book “will make available to many people from Benidorm some works that were self-published by Pere Maria and that today, sixty years after the first of them was published and almost 55 since the second was published, are very difficult to find, hence the value of its reissue”.

The councillor has also explained that in the first of the works now compiled, Orts i Bosch “narrated the arrival of the image of the patroness saint on a boat that was towed to the beaches with all the information about those events collected in the files of the General Archive of Simancas, while the second is the text that the historian wrote for the "Hallazgo" that the ACR La Barqueta performs every year on Poniente beach and that marks the beginning of our Festes Majors Patronals”.

In addition to both stories, this book also includes an introduction signed by Professor Francisco Amillo and a biographical note on Pere Maria Orts i Bosch prepared by his nephew Vicente Ibáñez Orts.
