A day of coexistence, "tradition" and "part of our culture"
Thousands of members of the clubs celebrate 'La Mona' in Parc de la Séquia Mare
Thousands of peñistas have gathered today, and for the second year, in Parc de la Séquia Mare to celebrate the day of 'La Mona' organized by the Associació de Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge' and the Department of Fiestas.
On the institutional side, the event was attended by the mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles; and other members of the corporation. The provincial deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate, has also participated. The Queen Mayor of the Festes Majors Patronals, Angélica Morenilla; nor the Children's Queen, Daniela Talavera, accompanied at all times by the president of the Commission, Vicente Solaz and, how could it be otherwise, by the president of the club's members, Ramón Cano.
Toni Pérez recalled that 'La Mona' is a tradition that each year receives "impulse" from the Associació de Penyes, which has become a "mass" call. "Every year," he said, "after the Embaixada, just as the Angelet ends, the clubs begin to mount" and, he has emphasized the chosen and most "ideal" place, the Parc de la Séquia Mare, "a forest in the full urban fabric.
The mayor defined it as a "luxury" to be able to spend this "day of coexistence" that is "tradition" and "part of our culture" in the Séquia Mare and has specified that by noon "nearly 2,000 people, with 200 supporters clubs" had already gathered ”. In the afternoon, the members of the clubs, as is mandatory, have eaten the traditional sweet and some are already preparing for the next festive event of the entity, the Camping.
