17 September 2017
Un millar de personas celebran el Día de la Bicicleta recorriendo los carriles bici de Benidorm que ya suman 52 km

A fun and festive day that is part of the European Mobility Week and this year launched a new urban itinerary

A thousand people have participated this morning in the thirty-fourth edition of the 'Bicycle Day' that this year have been jointly organized by the councils of Sports and Mobility, a fun and festive day within the schedule of the III European Mobility Week (SEM) of Benidorm.

At about 10:00 am, the first bicycle riders began to gather in the new Foietes Park to participate in a 'Bicycle Day' that changed the place of call and itinerary and was integrated into the activities of the SEM. Among the participants, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the councilors of Mobility and Sports, José Ramón González de Zárate and Arturo Cabrillo; companions of corporation; members of cycling clubs, associations of neighbors and representatives of companies that encourage the use and healthy enjoyment of the bicycle in the city.

Toni Pérez has defined the 'Bike Day' as a sign of "a city that wants to change the culture of mobility" and recalled that they are already "more than 52 km bike lanes perfectly designed" that Benidorm has after the the recent incorporation of the bike lane in Murtal avenue (to which we will have to add the 16 planned in the cycle that will link the municipality with the neighboring Alfàs del Pi), and other projects under study. Pérez has spoken of the "change of consciousness of a city that requires and needs it", which strives for the bicycle to be an essential element of mobility. This last one has been recognized by the Generalitat with the second prize of its European Week of Mobility to the City in the category of big cities and with the recognition to the proposals made from the neighborhood movement by the Association of Neighbors of Els Tolls, with the also second prize to private entities. "Two prizes," said Pérez, "for the same city in the service of mobility and sustainability.

After 10.30 the pack of cyclists took the exit to cover the first section that was going to run through the avenue of Ricardo Bayona, Jaime I, Armada Española, Villajoyosa, Calpe, Benissa, Alcalde Vicente Pérez Devesa, Cuba and, again Ricardo Bayona until returning to Foietes. At about 11.15 the 'multicolored snake' returned to the point of concentration where the organization had installed the point of supply, half an hour later, to travel the second section of the route; Guadalest, Estación, Ginés Cartagena, Polop, Beniardà avenue, parallel to the trenet, avenue of Italy, European Community, Comunitat Valenciana, Alfonso Puchades and, again, Ricardo Bayona and Foietes.

At the end of the tour, participants were offered gifts from the participating companies: sportswear, bicycle supplies, services, helmets, and 12 bicycles. The events of the III European Mobility Week of Benidorm will continue tomorrow Monday, September 18 with the celebration of the 'Day of management of mobility and responsible use of the car' and will continue over the next few days.
