Students are interested in the analyzes and controls that are carried out in water, sand and footbaths on the beach, as well as in municipal swimming pools and the water network.
Students of the Environmental Health of the IES l'Almadrava visit the municipal laboratory
A group of students in the second year of the Environmental Health of the IES Almadrava visited the municipal laboratory of Benidorm City Council to learn about the work that is carried out in these facilities. Together with their teachers, laboratory staff, and the Councilor for Health, Mónica Gómez, the students have toured the facilities and have been mainly interested in the periodic analyses carried out to control the quality of bathing water, sand, and footbaths. from the beaches of Benidorm, as well as those in the municipal swimming pools, both at the Palau d' sports l'Illa and the Ciudad Deportiva 'Guillermo Amor', as well as in the water network.
During the visit, the laboratory staff detailed to the students the different chemical and biological controls that are practiced and explained the entire process that goes from taking samples to obtaining the results of the analyzes.
The Councilor for Health thanked the IES l'Almadrava for "their interest in making students aware of the work carried out in the laboratory and, through it, making them participate in the important and constant management of health control that is carried out the City Council to guarantee at all times, for example, that our beaches and the services provided on them offer the highest quality standards”.
Gómez recalled that "controls on the beaches are carried out every week in high season and biweekly the rest of the year, taking samples at ten different points on the seafront: l'Almadrava and Ti Ximo coves; three enclaves on the Levante beach; three others in Westeros; Mal Pas beach; and the island.
These samples taken by municipal laboratory technicians are subsequently analyzed to determine if they meet the standards regulated in Royal Decree 1341/2007, of October 11, on bathing water quality management.
In addition to the analyzes on the beaches and in the municipal swimming pools, the laboratory carries out weekly controls on the drinking water supply network and fountains.
Also in the cisterns of schools; while supervising the microbiological quality of the food served in its canteens.
The municipal and public laboratory is also available to any individual or neighborhood community that needs its services to determine the quality of water in swimming pools or cisterns.
