Solar lighting and security cameras fight against illegal dumping of rubble in La Huerta
Benidorm has an Ecopark where residents can deposit debris
The Councilor for Road Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate, has announced the entry into operation of ten solar street lamps in La Huerta area which, together with two more installed by the Municipality of l'Alfàs del Pi, will improve road lighting, since they turn on when they detect the presence of people or vehicles and, in addition, they will allow to control and fight illegal dumping of debris.
From the Camí de la Lloma, which runs between the terms of the two towns of the Marina Baixa, what was previously a forest turned into one of the black spots for illegal dumping of rubble that still remain in Benidorm, González de Zárate wanted to help and support residents of La Huerta who have suffered for years from these polluting practices that damage the ecosystem so much.
"It is a very secluded area - the person responsible for Street Cleaning has pointed out - between the two municipalities" but it belongs to Benidorm. Here, action will be taken against the illegal dumping of rubble through "two immediate actions." The first will be the installation of the ten solar streetlights, as announced in February by the mayor. "We already have the contract and the lights in municipal storage," he clarified. The second will be the placement of security cameras that will monitor the license plates of passing vehicles "so that, in case debris is dumped, check which car has thrown it onto the road" to take the necessary measures.
As a complement to the entry into service of the new lights, González de Zárate has announced that at the end of August the City Council will clean the area of debris.
The mayor recalled that Benidorm offers citizens an Ecopark service located in the surroundings of Terra Mítica. "Anyone - he said - who does a small work, can go with their bags of rubble and deposit it there without any problem." "We do not understand - he insisted - how in areas so beautiful and interesting for the environment", where people can walk, "these offenders come here and throw the rubble at us." González de Zárate has appealed to citizen collaboration so that these polluting residues end their days in the Ecopark.
Very serious offense
According to the regulations, the Municipal Environmental Ordinance considers that depositing garbage, waste or debris and, in general, all kinds of waste, on land not authorized for this purpose by the City Council, is a 'very serious' offense that It can be sanctioned with a fine between 150 and 900 euros.
