Social Welfare suits as a multipurpose space the basement of the center "Llorca Linares"

11 January 2017
Bienestar Social adecúa como espacio polivalente el sótano del centro “Llorca Linares”

The City Council is waiting for the Conselleria de Patrimonio to accept the public domain that gives viability to direct access from Mercasa area

Benidorm is adapting as a polyvalent and multipurpose space the basement of the social center José Llorca Linares to give it a public use. A basement of 686 square meters that since the opening of the center was only used as a warehouse because it does not have the regulatory accesses.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, indicated that the adaptation "is practically completed", which means expanding the useful area of the social center by more than 30%, and which has meant an investment of 40,000 euros, made from the budget of the Social Welfare department - directed by Ángela Llorca - taking advantage of the funds that had been reserved for "another action that could not be carried out in Foietes Park".

Pérez detailed that this work of adaptation has allowed to turn part of the basement into "two large multipurpose rooms" where wooden floor will be placed while the rest of the space is reserved as warehouses for the department of Welfare and for different social entities which have their headquarters in José Llorca Linares center.

This adaptation is linked to the work of Foietes Park, since Conselleria will be responsible for creating the new direct access to the basement from the street: one next to the parking area of Mercasa and another along Goya Street. In this regard, the City Council is waiting for the Ministry of Heritage to authorize the change of destination of a property of public domain proposed by the local administration, approved in full session and consensuated with the Council of Equality.

This work is in addition to the development this summer of comprehensive rehabilitation of all baths and dressing rooms of Llorca Linares - these last used by homeless people derived by Caritas, Red Cross and the Council itself.
