Sant Jaume's Day in Benidorm brings together the fervor of festival-goers and devotees of the patron saint with massive events

Benidorm continues its Patron Saint Festivities, dedicating Monday to the town's patron saint, Saint James the Apostle. Thousands of Benidorm residents and visitors who have traveled to the city to experience and enjoy the festivities took to the streets again from early morning to celebrate the third main day of the celebrations, which will continue until Wednesday, November 12.

The Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna and Jaime I Avenue were the settings for the main events this morning: the high mass in honor of the patron saint and a highly acclaimed mascletà (firecracker display) once again set off by Vulcano Pyrotechnics, in which 95.67 kilograms of explosive charge were burned, composed of thunderclaps, shells, fireworks, and smoke, recreating the red color of the Cross of Saint James and thrilling the crowd.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, along with the councilor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros, and numerous members of the municipal corporation, accompanied the queens of the 2025 Festivals, Paula Pascual Sánchez and Aitana Pérez Gutiérrez, and their ladies-in-waiting; the president of the Festival Committee, Susana Martínez; the president of the Association of Festival Clubs, Jonathan López; and festival organizers, members of festival clubs, and devotees at the celebration of the Eucharist. The Mass, officiated by José Antonio Gea Fernández, parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Church in Torrevieja and dean-president of the Orihuela Cathedral Chapter, along with representatives from all the local parishes, also brought together among the authorities Senator Agustín Almodóbar; the Director General of Family, Childhood and Adolescence and Demographic Challenge of the Valencian Government, Angélica Such; and regional deputies José Ramón González de Zárate, Manuel Pérez Fenoll, and Mario Villar, while the rest of the pews were filled to capacity with devotees of the patron saint. The religious ceremony also featured the participation of the Antonio Berenguer Polyphonic Choir of Polop, conducted by Maestro Rafael Doménech Pardo.

Meanwhile, during the morning, the youngest attendees enjoyed a large children's playground in the Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España (Square of Their Majesties the Kings of Spain).

At the end of the ceremony, there was an aerial display and a parade that took the entire municipal and festival entourage to Avenida Jaime I to witness the mascletà (firecracker display).

At precisely 2:00 PM, Queens Paula and Aitana pressed the button to start the second of the "mascletàs" (firecracker displays) of these 2025 Patron Saint Festivities, from Jaime I Square. A powerful spectacle that, in just over five minutes, lifted the spirits of the crowd, culminating in a truly thunderous finale that was met with thunderous applause from the hundreds of people gathered there.

The events in honour of Benidorm's patron saint continue this afternoon at 7:30 PM with the traditional procession and the subsequent lighting of the "Estampeta" (firework display) in honour of Saint James in the square that bears his name. The procession will proceed along Calle Mayor, Alameda, Paseo de la Carretera, Santa Faz, Mal Pas, and Plaza de San Jaime. Once the service concludes, inside the church, parish priest Juan Antonio González will announce the new organisers for the 2026 Patron Saint Festivities.

In the evening, live music will take centre stage, with the Benidorm-based group ‘Niños de Oro’ performing at l’Hort de Colón at 11:00 PM, followed by the band ‘Despistaos’ taking the stage in the Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España starting at midnight. After this concert, the traditional ‘Correfocs’ (fire run) will begin, this year presented by the Colla Dimonis Rafolins. It will start on Escuelas Street and proceed through Ruzafa and Passeig de la Carretera, ending in Parque de Elche.

Regulations

As in previous years, Benidorm City Council has designed a comprehensive plan to reinforce security, cleanliness, and the overall condition of the city during these days. It has also published the traditional regulations governing the operation of the peñas (social clubs) and festival venues. These regulations reiterate the prohibition on the use of firecrackers and other F1, F2, and F3 pyrotechnic devices from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as between 2:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Furthermore, it stipulates that music played in peñas venues must cease completely by 4:00 a.m., while the venues themselves must close no later than 6:00 a.m.

The Festes Majors Patronals (Patron Saint Festivals) will continue with dozens of activities of all kinds until next Wednesday, November 12.
