The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Rocío celebrates the Triduo and El Simulacro de Despedida

The 'Salvas rocieras' sound again in the streets of Benidorm

24 April 2022
El Rocío vuelve a Benidorm.
El Rocío vuelve a Benidorm.

The drum, the flute or bagpipes and the salvas, (typical andalusian songs), have sounded again in the streets of Benidorm in the celebration of the traditional Triduo and the Simulacro de Despedida that has starred, one more year, of Our Lady of the Rocío Brotherhood of Benidorm.

On Friday, the young Naira Recio read the Children's Proclamation in the Parish Church of La Almudena and yesterday, Saturday, the Rocío Proclamation, in the same place and by Rafael Martín. Today, Sunday, after a rociera mass, at 11:30 a.m., hundreds of neighbours, most of them walking and others in carts and horses, marched in pilgrimage to the Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna to offer offerings to the Mare de Déu del Sofratge and say goodbye of it before starting the trip to the Huelva village of El Rocío.

In the pilgrimage, led by the Simpecado of the Brotherhood, the mayor, Toni Pérez; and the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles; and other members of the municipal corporation together with the president of the Brotherhood Juan Carlos Benavente and the Big Sister of Rocío 2022, Rocío Romero. Also part of the entourage was the Major and Child queens of the Festes Majors Patronals 2022, Aila Merenciano and Chloe D'Hebroodt; the president of the Commission, José Vicente Fuster; and that of the Associació de Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge', Adrián Romero.

At Plaça de Sant Jaume, Toni Pérez has signed in the Book of Rules of the Brotherhood and has wished a happy journey to those who set the course for Almonte. Next, the pilgrims offered a bath of flower petals to the Virgen del Rocío before heading to the Rocío camp, located in the Foietes pine forest.
