Historical Heritage studies the promotion of new complementary activities to visits and dramatizations

The Roman castellum of Tossal will expand its possibilities

The Department of Historical Heritage launches its initiative to promote and revitalize the Roman Castellum del Tossal. The head of the council, Ana Pellicer, after participating this morning in a radio program held live on the esplanade, highlighted the uniqueness of the place and the possibilities that its full use entails.

In today's action, the archaeological and tourist projection of the place has been enhanced, as well as the didactic component -of the visit with schoolchildren- and the musical projection, from the Municipal Professional Conservatory of Music.

Pellicer has highlighted that her council is working on the development of a program of complementary activities to those currently taking place on the premises, which will include different afternoon and evening events.

The Roman Castellum of Tossal has already approved the visualization project; an action included within the Tourism Sustainability Plan that gives continuity to the archaeological intervention of excavation, consolidation and enhancement of the remains of the 'castellum' co-financed with FEDER funds and which culminated in 2020.

In the Historical Heritage department, guided tours are organized with the advice of archaeologists and with the avatar 'Fabio', the Roman protagonist of 'Benidorm Avatar' geolocation 'app', who tells the students, in the first person, what life is like and how it is organized in the 'castellum', the dependencies that make it up, the routines and feeding of the troops, as well as the military function of the fort in the midst of the Sertorian Wars.

Currently and as a complementary action to the Roman Castellum del Tossal, which has an exhibition, through the employment program 'T'Avalem', the first practical actions are being developed with the revitalization of the exhibition 'Romans against Romans. Sertorio and the civil wars in the southeast of Hispania', which until the beginning of June will visit Benidorm's Early Childhood and Primary Schools on an itinerant basis. This is a transversal initiative of the Departments of Historical Heritage, Education and Local Promotion.
