Riu Dolç Brass, fourth stage of the Great Recitals of the Department of Culture

17 September 2022
Grandes Recitales

The Cycle of Great Recitals 2022 organized by the Department of Culture and directed by Jaime Jesús Pérez, was presented last night, at 8:00 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the City Council the Riu Dolç Brass quintet that has performed works by Mairata, Tàrrega and Piazzola , among others.

Riu Dolç Brass is made up of Carlos Navarro and José Fernando García Iborra, trumpets; Taylor Townsend, horn; Diego Riudavets, trombone; and Felipe Arroyo, tuba. It is a quintet that was formed at the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears in 2014, although García Iborra is from Benidorm.

In the recital, in the first part they played 'Brass Quintet Nº 1', by Antoni Mairata; Caleb Hudson's White Rose Elegy; i ‘The Casbah of Tetuan’, by Kerry Turner. Already in the second half, the Riu Dolç Brass performed 'Recuerdos de la Alhambra', by Francisco Tàrrega; Sony Kompanek's Killer Tango; and they finished with 'Suite from María de Buenos Aires', by Astor Piazzola.

The Cycle of Great Recitals is an initiative of the Department of Culture that emerged in 2016 with the aim of facilitating free access to classical and orchestral music for citizens. The 2022 edition will end on October 7 with its fifth performance, a concert starring the students of the 'José Pérez Barceló' Professional Conservatory of Music, also at 8:00 p.m. and in the Town Hall Assembly Hall.
