Los catedráticos de la UA Antonio Gil Olcina y Antonio Rico Amorós presentan el libro ‘Canal Bajo del Algar. Columna vertebral de la Marina Baixa’

The Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Council has hosted this morning the presentation of the new book of the professors of the University of Alicante (UA) Antonio Gil Olcina and Antonio Rico Amorós, entitled 'Canal Bajo del Algar. Columna vertebral Marina Baixa '. The writers have told the presentation ceremony with the collaboration of the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the president of the Community of Irrigators, Francisco Javier Vidal Giner and the Provincial Water Deputy, Francisco Manuel Sáez.

The presentation of this work has coincided with the World Water Day, which this year has as a motto 'Afrontando la escasez de agua'. During the event, the writers gave an extensive demonstration of their knowledge about the origins of the Canal and the water configuration of the region. A study they started with 'Séquia Mare. Irrigation Mayor of Alfaz del Pi and Benidorm (1666-2016) ', also presented in Benidorm at the beginning of February.

The authors analyze the orographic, pluviometric and hydrographic context of the region; the origins of the Canal and the ordinances that govern it; the main milestones of this infrastructure; the projects put in place in each period; as well as the importance of the Canal in the configuration of the water management model of a region along ten chapters.

Special mention deserves the third chapter, in which the beginnings of the Channel of the Algar are contemplated, linked to the Plan of 1902 or Plan Gasset, or the fourth chapter, with the denomination of the Channel from 1915 and until the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.
