Poker at Berlanga awards for ‘El Cover’ and ‘Ama’, films shot in Benidorm
The mayor highlights the work of Benidorm Film Office in attracting and coordinating audiovisual projects
‘El Cover’ and ‘Ama’ films, both shot last year in Benidorm, have been held in full at Berlanga Awards, convened by the Acadèmia Valenciana de l’Audiovisual and which were delivered last weekend. The two feature films have won the award in the categories in which they were nominated: five in the case of 'El Cover' and one in that of 'Ama'.
With a story about the dreams of the 'cover' that pay tribute to great artists in establishments of Benidorm, Secun de la Rosa's 'first opera' has won the award for Best Original Music, Best Sound, Best Costumes, Best Makeup and Hairdresser and Best Supporting Actress for Carolina Yuste. Julia de Paz's directorial debut has resulted in the Best Actress award for Tamara Casellas, star of the drama ‘Ama’.
The mayor, Toni Pérez, congratulated the teams of both productions "for the prizes obtained in these Valencian audiovisual awards, which represent a new recognition of the quality of both films, of which Benidorm feels part".
At this point, he recalled that "Benidorm was the main setting for 'El Cover', which gives us images of such well-known and recognizable locations as Levante and Mal Pas beaches, the port, the English area or the nightclubs on Cominudad Valencian Avenue". “Although in 'Ama' Benidorm shares the limelight with other towns on the Costa Blanca –he pointed out-, the city is also very present in this feature film with scenes shot on the promenades of both beaches, the old town or establishments on Avenida del Mediterráneo or Gerona street ”.
In addition to these two films, the name of Benidorm also appears linked to that of two other productions that have won awards for their time at the Berlangas: ‘Mindanao’, chosen as the Best Fiction Short Film; and the feature film ‘Las Consecuencias’, with underwater scenes filmed on the island and which has won the award for Best Direction, Best Editing and Post-production, Best Photography and Lighting Direction and Best Production Direction.
The mayor has indicated that "after the Valencian audiovisual awards, 'El Cover', 'Ama' and 'Mindanao' have an upcoming appointment with the highest awards in Spanish cinema, Goya Awards, in which each production has achieved a nomination" .
“Seeing that productions shot in the city are awarded and recognized is an incentive to continue working on attracting audiovisual projects - he added-; a task that is in charge of Benidorm Film Office, which collaborates with the production companies facilitating the filming tasks in the city ”.
Benidorm Film Office, “in collaboration with Visit Benidorm or with organizations such as Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, the city is promoted as a set in different forums, fairs and events in the audiovisual sector. The last of the events in which Benidorm Film Office has participated with the support of Turisme Comunitat Valenciana and Productors Audiovisuals Valencians (PAV) was held last week at Madrid Film Academy, in front of a cast of representatives of the audiovisual industry .
