The mayor asks for speed in the processing of the new specifications and that the demands of the hospitality sector are attended

Pérez defends in Congress the sustainability of the Imserso social holiday program

06 March 2023
Toni Pérez alcalde de Benidorm

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has claimed today in the Congress of Deputies the sustainability of the Imserso Social Holiday Program and has claimed “speed” in the processing of the new specifications that, in addition, “must include the demands of the accommodative sector ”.

Pérez made these statements in a day organized by the PP group in Congress, a work session that has focused on the elderly holiday program.

The day has been inaugurated by Cuca Gamarra, spokesman for this political group in Congress, and has consisted of two tables coordinated by Deputies Agustín Almodóbar and the former Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego. Thus, the mayors of Benidorm and Lanjarón, the General Secretary of the Employer Hosbec, representatives of the Tourism Table, the Democratic Union of Pensioners, the Association of Travel Agencies, the Association of Spa, and the University of the University of the University of the Rioja have analyzed the 40 years of this program.

In his speech, the mayor has been “expectant” before the new statement that will govern the Imserso vacation program and recalled that it is “an investment program since for each euro invested, the State receives 1.74”. In that sense, the first mayor has insisted that the primary objective of the same must be "the maintenance of employment in the sector." Pérez, who has advanced that the new “is hopeful” conditions has insisted on the "urgency" of its processing for the deadlines with which the administration is handled.

Concerning the program itself, the mayor has declared "very satisfied" with the weight that the city has in the same "since we assume 80% of those who choose the Valencian Community and 18.5% nationwide." Pérez, at that point, has specified that Benidorm has for the Imserso of "about thirty hotels and 1.3 million stays."

Toni Pérez has also highlighted the "tractor effect" of the Imserso because "it implies the accommodative sector and the other segments of the tourist destination, maintains employment and for this, it is necessary to work in conditions." He has also referred to a study prepared by the University of Alicante in which he advocates "for reaching a price of 35 euros/day" and has opted "to bring happiness to the elderly." In that field, the mayor of Benidorm has reiterated the city's commitment to ‘Silver’ and has said that “Benidorm Generation is a highly demanded product”.

Pérez has also been very critical of the current program "because entrepreneurs are working not to lose the human capital that companies in the hospitality sector bind." "We are not about to lose jobs and close hotels," he said.

Finally, the mayor valued the figures and data of Benidorm "working the markets, which have converted this year the low season thanks to events to alleviate the difficulties of the Imserso program." On this, he encouraged us to "aspire to a horizon of 1.2 million vacation packages."
