In the event, the poster for Festes Majors Patronals 2021, the work by Miguel Ribes Sogorb, was unveiled
The party returns to Benidorm after the hiatus caused by the pandemic
With a parade and an offering to Sant Jaume, patron saint of the city, the party has returned to the streets of Benidorm with one eye on the positive evolution of the pandemic and another on hope and enthusiasm for the celebration of its Festes Majors Patronals 2021.
As tradition dictates, the image of the patron carried on the shoulders by four women members of the Patron Major Saint Festivities, arrived minutes before 8:00 p.m. at the Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España, where it was expected by the Municipal Corporation headed by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles. Among the attendees was also the regional deputy, Manuel Pérez Fenoll.
After the image of Sant Jaume, the standard bearer, Vicente Fuster and his family members, as well as a representation of the Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’ chaired by Andrian Romero, members and members of honor. The queens, Paula Pérez and Sofía Fuster, and their courts of honor closed the parade. The president of the Commission, Batiste Rostoll, received the bouquets of flowers that little by little were surrounded the patron.
After the offering, the poster announcing the Festes Majors Patronals 2021, which will be held from November 13 to 17, was unveiled, a work by Miguel Ribes Sogorb to whom Batiste Rostoll presented a badge of honor.
Toni Pérez: «we must take care of ourselves if we want people to live the festivities with all their hearts»
Next, Toni Pérez, on the stage, addressed those present "on this special July 25" [due to the pandemic the event could not be commemorated on the patron's day], being convinced that "a new moment is opening hope ”with an eye on“ defeating the pandemic ”which is“ what is expected of people from Benidorm ”.
The mayor congratulated Ribes Sogorb for his poster. An author who "came from Alicante" to Benidorm where "he lives the festivities like the most", as evidenced by his artistic career dedicated largely to local traditions, culture and festivities.
Toni Pérez recalled that with the festivities "we have an important appointment" for "which we must take care of ourselves" if we want " people to live them with all their hearts." Faced with this collective effort, the mayor reminded those present that "you will always have the City Council by your side."
The first mayor recalled the historical fact of the discovery of that boat among whose ashes was found the image of what is today the patroness saint of the city, the Mare de Déu del Sofratge. That ship was set on fire "because of people's fear of a possible pandemic" and today, in times of Covid-19 "instead of burning, what we have to do is build." The celebration of the holidays will be a good time to show it.
After the cheers to the patron, the patroness saint and Benidorm, the hymns of the city and of the Region were performed. The act ended with the firing of fireworks.
