The jury will announce the motto of the winning entry before August 15th, which will receive a prize of 2,000 euros

Nine compositions are competing for the XXIV Benidorm Festival Music Competition

Nueve composiciones optan a alzarse con el XXIV Concurso de Música Festera de Benidorm

The chosen Christian march will be performed in concert for the first time on September 27, when the name of the piece and its composer will be revealed.

A total of nine works have been submitted this year to compete in the twenty-fourth edition of the 'Villa de Benidorm' Festival Music Competition, organised by the Department of Culture of the Benidorm City Council and held this year in the Christian march category. This was announced this Friday by the head of the department, Jaime Jesús Pérez, who announced that the jury will announce the theme of the winning piece before August 15th, once all the proposals submitted by July 31st have been reviewed. The councillor congratulated all the authors for their participation, which "contributes once again to further consolidating this competition, which is already a benchmark."

As established in the rules, the jury that will select the winning work is chaired by Jaime Jesús Pérez, the Councillor for Culture of the Benidorm City Council. It also includes three prominent professionals in the musical field, as well as a representative of the Benidorm Moors and Christians Association, acting as secretary. The councillor explained that the jury members are currently reviewing the pieces in the competition and noted that the winning composition will receive the corresponding trophy and a cash prize of 2,000 euros.

The musical creations must be "original and unpublished, and must not have been previously performed in public." The councillor emphasised that, after 24 editions, this "Villa de Benidorm" competition is a consolidated activity in the field of composition and that, from it, "many works have emerged that have subsequently been played in parades and concerts throughout Spain."

This is an activity, the councillor continued, that "seeks to highlight the significance and important role that music plays in human beings and society, in addition to promoting artistic and musical creativity among professionals and contributing to maintaining the relevance of traditional music so deeply rooted in the Valencian Community."

Once the jury has evaluated the entries, "the theme of the winning piece will be announced no later than August 15th," and it will be "performed for the first time on September 27th" before the public in Óscar Esplá auditorium in Parque de l'Aigüera.

That day, "the composer and the final name of the Christian march will be announced in a concert by the Societat Musical L'Illa de Benidorm as a prelude to the Moors and Christians festivities."
