The Neighborhood Council approves 32 proposals for the City Council to select those that will go to the Participatory Budget

02 October 2017
El Consejo Vecinal aprueba 32 propuestas para que el Ayuntamiento seleccione las que irán al Presupuesto Participativo

A total of 32 proposals from the 59 that have been made by citizens to the Neighborhood Council have passed the first screening to be included in what will be the third Municipal Participatory Budget City of Benidorm. The proposals were voted in the assembly held last Friday, chaired by the Councilor for Citizen Participation in the Casa del Fester, María Jesús Pinto, along with two Vice-Presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Fernando Montes and Cristian Corraini, the spokesperson for the Follow-up Commission of the Participatory Budget, Juan Antonio Lizancos and technical staff of the City Council.

The Participative Budget is a mechanism for participation and management of the municipality, through which the citizens of Benidorm can propose and decide to which works or actions should be allocated 5% of the budget heading of the City Council.

The councilwoman of Citizen Participation has explained that in the two previous years that percentage "has been exceeded by far" when the projects included in the Participatory Budget are executed and also by taking care of - with charge to other items - the proposals of the neighbors. This year's budget totaled 255,000 euros, an amount that alone has exceeded the project to construct a walkway between Italia Street and the sports and school complex of Salto del Agua, whose tender published on 5 September the Official Gazette of the Province, for 285,000 euros, which was the most voted by the neighbors. But in addition to this project are added the 225,000 euros of the Neighborhood Accessibility Plan, which will exceed the 15 actions originally planned in several neighborhoods of the city as the winning company has offered an improvement of 44%.

The proposals related to Urban Scene and Accessibility were again the most voted by the neighbors. Now a new deadline is open until the end of the month for municipal technicians to proceed to the technical and economic evaluation of the proposals. After this new sieve, the Neighborhood Council will raise to the City Hall the definitive list of those that want to be included in the budget heading of the City Council. Last year's Participative Budget was used to install children's games adapted in the parks of Elche and l'Aigüera, to make lugs and recesses in many sidewalks of the city, and to condition the Avenida de Alfonso Puchades.
