Nearly 4,800 club members participate this weekend in the traditional 'Acampada de las Peñas', a camp organized every year by Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge, with the collaboration of the City Council, on Juan Pablo II Avenue, in Poniente area. The event began yesterday, Friday, and will continue until this Sunday, with numerous recreational, festive and gastronomic events. The camp is one of the most expected events with many participants, even breaking this year's record.
The numbers provided by the Association confirm this. According to these data, 202 clubs have registered to participate this year in the Camp, the one with the highest participation, with 292 plots, fenced and marked. In addition, light poles, water points, toilets and other health and security services have been arranged to meet the needs of the nearly 4,800 club members, including adults and children, participating in the event.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez with the Fiestas Councilor, Mariló Cebreros, participated this morning in the 'picaeta', an aperitive, that the Club members prepare every year. Other members of the municipal Corporation have also joined them; the president of the Penyes Association, Jaume Cortés; that of the Committee of Major Patron Festivities, María Dolores Cano; and the queens of the Fiestas, Valentina Almodóbar Climent and Laia Zamora Picó, along with their courts of honour.
As happened in the previous edition, the City Council has once again enabled a parking space with a capacity for 400 vehicles. Likewise, the bus service, line 2 which connects with the downtown, Elche Park and Rincón de Loix has been expanded and a taxi rank has been installed at the entrance.
Throughout the weekend, campers will enjoy healthy coexistence in one of the green lungs of the city and carry out activities, games for children, contests and musical shows. In addition, the departments of Social Welfare and Equality, headed by councillor Ángela Zaragozí, have launched the 'Coneixement' campaign for another year, from the Community Prevention Unit for Addictive Behaviors (UPCCA), to raise awareness among supporters on responsible consumption, as well as a 'purple point' to promote a party free of harassment towards women.
Tomorrow, Sunday, the club members are scheduled to hold the traditional paella contest, while there will once again be bouncy castles, games, raffles and other activities for children and adults.
