10 December 2016
Un mural en La Cala de Benidorm para celebrar el 68 aniversario de los derechos humanos

‘'Paint your wall' is an initiative of Culture in collaboration with the Diputación and Juan Gil-Albert Institute which is also held in other towns in Alicante

Benidorm City Council is celebrating the International Day of Human Rights with the execution of a mural by the artist from Alicante, Tom Rock, (Antonio Ros Sánchez), on Avenida del Murtal, in the tunnels that go through Villajoyosa Avenue. Rock is one of the most important street creators of graffiti and a reference, since the eighties of the last century, of urban art at the national level. The initiative is part of the 'Pinta tu muro' campaign which, in addition to Benidorm, is being carried out in Alfàs del Pi, Dénia, Elda, Elche, Sant Joan d'Alacant, Calp, Castalla, Crevillent or Alicante, Under the coordination of the Diputación de Alicante and the Institute of Culture Juan Gil-Albert in Alicante. Technicians from the department of Culture, for the realization of the mural, have been preparing the surface in previous days, and yesterday Tom Rock's team has already begun to outline the design, which is expected to be concluded throughout the day today.

For the design, the artist has taken advantage of the bridge: "it has been very good for me to represent a balance", he said, where "religions, the words 'human rights' and human races are represented at the bottom, three on each side". All this using a combination of earth and blue colors, in harmony with the mountains, the sky and the own light "that gives off Benidorm".

68th anniversary of human rights

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez and the councilors José Ramón González de Zárate, Arturo Cabrillo and Josep Bigorra did not miss the chance to see the artist in action, who has always been accompanied by Culture staff, Juan Gil- Albert, members of the Association of Neighbors Mont Benidorm of La Cala and curious. Nobody wanted to miss the evolution of Tom Rock's work and mastery when ripping volumes and details using only paint sprays. Toni Pérez recalled that this year marks the 68th anniversary of the promulgation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations on December 10, 1948, in Paris, and "we celebrate it have said it with the realization of this mural by Tom Rock," an artist of first level "and with" a long history in our province". The mayor announced that the City Council will intervene "for this work to be preserved" for a long time in a place with "maximum traffic" to be "very present in the day to day of the neighbors of Benidorm and for a very long time."
