More than 2,000 minors between the ages of 3 and 16 enjoy the educational, sports and leisure programs during the summer
The programs, courses, and educational, sports, and leisure activities promoted by Benidorm City Council during the summer have reached 2,106 people registered this year, according to data provided this Tuesday by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez. A municipal offer that has reached the population between 3 and 16 years of age and that has been developed mainly during July and August in different municipal spaces, such as schools or sports facilities.
The mayor has indicated that "with these programs, courses, and activities we have facilitated work, family and social reconciliation for the families of these minors during school holidays, with a varied and professional offer that has been provided by municipal staff in some cases and by companies specialized in others”. Likewise, the mayor has highlighted that all the activities are "adapted to the needs of minors and that, in addition to an educational, sports, cultural and/or leisure alternative, they also have a meeting space in which children and young people share experiences and interests.
The number of participants, he added, "confirms not only the significant demand that exists for this type of service but also the trust that Benidorm families place in the initiatives that the City Council designs and proposes with their younger neighbors in mind."
The municipal sports schools organized by the Department of Sports, which have been developed between the end of June and August 18 and taught by the sports technicians of the City Council, have added a total of 1,290 registered. This sports offer has included aqua gym, swimming -for different age groups and people with functional diversity-, beach soccer, multi-sports school -two age groups and with custody service-, kayaking, sailing, and beach volleyball.
Among the activities most in demand, swimming and multisports stand out, each exceeding three hundred children and adolescents registered, as well as others related to water sports, such as children's kayaking, with 111 participants, or sailing with nearly a hundred participants.
Educational Support and Youth Leisure
Apart from the pure sports offer, as in previous years, the Department of Education has worked on two initiatives aimed at children: the Summer Educational Support Program (PAEV) and the Summer School, organized by the Association de Ampas with the collaboration of the City Council.
In the PAEV, an educational activity aimed at Primary students taught by municipal staff, 82 students have participated; while in the Summer School, a participation record has been broken this year, with a total of 590 attendees between the ages of 3 and 14. Of them, 340 attended during July and 250 in August. From the City Council, the assistance of minors with fewer resources has been granted and subsidized up to 50% of the cost to the rest of the registered attendees in Benidorm.
Finally, the Youth Department has developed two other activities this summer: the Summer Program and the Summer Camp. Nearly 144 young people between the ages of 10 and 16 have participated in the Summer Program, which has combined numerous activities such as cultural outings, to the beach or the sports center; workshops; emotional intelligence jobs; sports; games; hiking; kitchen; environmental activities; board games or cinema forum”.
