Moors and Christians in Benidorm cease clashes after the reading of the "Parliament of Peace" before hundreds of people

The reading of the "Parliament of Peace" at Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España (The Kings of Spain) this afternoon ended the clashes between the Moorish forces and Christian troops in the town of Benidorm. The city's patron saint, Sant Jaume, was the protagonist of the last day of the Moors and Christians festivities, organised in collaboration with the City Council by the Moors and Christians Association, chaired by Arturo Mira. These festivities have been declared of Local Tourist Interest.

The Parliament of Peace is a unique document that highlights the Moors and Christians festivities in Benidorm. A text signed by Pere Maria Orts i Bosch in 1990, it depicts the dialogue between the castle warden and the Muslim prince of Kairouan regarding the legitimate ownership of the square. After a reasoned debate, it is proven that the fortress is Christian, and the Moorish forces are welcomed to Benidorm. Both sides fraternally seal a peace.

After the performance, the "filaes" (followers) marched in a parade toward the Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna, accompanied by local authorities, including the Mayor, Toni Perez, and the Councillor for Festivals, Mariló Cebreros, as well as several members of the local council. Also marching in the pilgrimage were the queens of the 2025 Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Pascual and Aitana Pérez, their courts of honour, and the presidents of the Commission, Susana Martínez, and the Association of Verge del Sofratge Penyes, Jonathan López.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the parade that made its way through downtown Benidorm from Plaza de SS. MM. los Reyes de España, Calle Herrerías, Paseo de la Carretera, and Santa Faz, to reach the Church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna, where everyone, Moors and Christians, made offerings to the patron saint of Benidorm before celebrating the traditional mass.

In the afternoon, the last of the parades, the "retreta," will take place, repeating yesterday's Entrada route to conclude the 2025 Moors and Christians festivities.
