Minute of silence in Benidorm to condemn a new case of sexist violence in Mallorca

23 September 2019
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm para condenar un nuevo caso de violencia machista en Mallorca

Benidorm has observed a minute of silence today in protest and mourning for the recent victim of gender violence in Mallorca. The acting mayor of Benidorm, Ana Pellicer, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led a concentration in which representatives of municipal political groups, officials and neighbors have also participated.

This time it was in Colonia Sant Jordi, in the municipality of Ses Salines (Palma de Mallorca), where a 59-year-old man of Spanish nationality was arrested after stabbing Ika Hoffmann, of German national and 59 years old. The health personnel despite performing resuscitation maneuvers at home where the aggression has occurred, could not do anything to save her life. The victim was inside the house that both shared with at least five wounds in the chest and abdomen caused by a knife. There are no previous complaints of gender violence.

In addition, a man who, last June, apparently left her partner in Viladecans (Barcelona) when he suffered a hypoglycemia, also entered into provisional prison. The man did not help the victim and recorded videos of the moment when the woman was dying, so she can join a new case of gender violence.

The Equality area of Benidorm City Council, all women who may be victims of gender-based violence are reminded that municipal services are available to them. There is also the victim assistance telephone number, 016, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and in 51 languages. It also leaves no trace on the phone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the call log.
