The mayor of Benidorm and the rest of the municipalities of the AMT meet with Minister of Tourism
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and his counterparts from the rest of the municipalities of Alianza de Municipios Turísticos de Sol y Playa (AMT) have held a meeting today with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto. In this meeting, the AMT has transferred to the minister the challenges, objectives and priorities of the entity, which brings together the eight leading Spanish destinations in the sun and beach segment and totaling more than 65 million overnight stays per year, on the 19th. 2% of the national total. In addition to the mayors of Benidorm, Adeje, Arona, Calviá, Lloret de Mar, Salou, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Torremolinos, the president of Hotel Technological Institute (ITH), Joan Molas, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, the mayor of Benidorm and vice president of the AMT has stressed the need to establish a new system of specific funding for tourism municipalities that allows them to have services tailored to the population they serve daily, and in some moments of the year multiplies by four the number of registered voters.
This afternoon a meeting of AMT is scheduled prior to the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur). Already at the fair, the mayors of the Alliance will participate on Thursday, January 24, at a round table in the forum #techYdestino that takes place within the framework of FiturtechY.
